Podcast Episode 6: A Christmas Message
Show Notes:
“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to YOU, He is Christ the Lord.” -Luke 2:11
What happened that Christmas? What started all this celebrating?
It wasn’t Santa, it wasn’t the toys, the lights, the trees, the baking. It was an infant.
But Why? What really happened for us that caused us to celebrate this time of year like no other time of year?
As I sat on the couch, coffee in hand. Early enough that just the lights from the Christmas tree allowed me to see, God hit me with the clearest picture of what really happened for me that night. And what happened for you too.
“Imagine you are drowning and you’ve been staying afloat for what seems like forever. Just praying, hoping and wishing someone would come along and save you. And suddenly an old water logged piece of wood comes by. Some have seen the wood and say “no, I’m better off on my own then with that old log. Some people see it and decide it’s not the way they desired to be saved, they pictured an easier way out. Like an easy ride to shore on a boat. But then there are the ones who have seen that log and grab on with all their might, and realize they have been rescued.”
That’s what happened that night. And that’s the story that continues to happen day after day. We were sent a Savior to save us from the drowning world we are living in. But some won’t grab on to Him because they think they are better off on their own. While some think there’s a more “attractive deal” out there that will save them. But for many of us, we believe, that lowly baby in a manger was our log to cling to. And we know that even though the ride may be long and bumpy, we have been saved and we will make it to the shores of heaven to see the face of our maker.
“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you, He is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11
That is the gift. The gift of the good news. The untouchable God came down and touched us. And His name is Jesus. That is what started this celebration that continues to turn the world upside down, year after year.
Merry Christmas Listeners. And Joy to the World.”
